The Jerusalem Art Show

One of my favorite cousins (u know who u are) told me about an art show here in Jerusalem, called, well… The Jerusalem Art Show. Allison and I went expecting it to be a gallery type setting, but this wasn’t ure convention art show. The Ma’mal Foundation displayed the art through the Old City in Jerusalem, by which visitors would not only see the art is a typical 2 dimensional form, but actually experience as a part of the rich culture and history it represents. We had gone to the opening tour where the foundation director led us on a tour through the city to see some of the exhibits. In theory, it was an amazing idea. In reality, it was a bit of a mess. The director was the only one being a tour guide, for about 100 people. We were surprised at least half of the crowd stuck with the tour for as long as they did, because only the first twenty people to stop closest to the director actually heard a one sentence snipit about the exhibit. Then he would simply continue on to the next exhibit. I understand he was pressed for time, but my only suggestion would be to have more than one guide. That would have made the presentation all that much better.

The exhibits themselves were really interesting. They ranged from a neon sign that read, “we apologize” to video clips projected onto the stone walls. Over the course of the month they’re having a variety of other art events, maybe I’ll make it to another one some time soon.
